In today’s fast-paced and dynamic environment, Human Resource (HR) professionals play a key role in strategic planning, organizational development, and driving innovation within the public sector.

Speaking during a workshop for HR Directors from various government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies held at the Kenya School of Government, Lower Kabete, the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, emphasized the need for continuous retooling and upskilling of HR professionals to ensure their relevance in the ever-evolving global landscape.

“This gathering reaffirms our shared commitment to strengthening human capital, which remains our most valuable resource in public service. Today’s discussions aim to address critical challenges and develop robust solutions for issues affecting the HR profession and the public service at large,” Dr. Imbunya stated.

She further urged all HR officers to uphold the highest standards of integrity and honesty in executing their responsibilities.

Also speaking at the event, Public Service Commission Vice Chairperson, Mrs. Mary Kimonye, underscored the importance of merit-based recruitment processes.

“Your role in achieving the government’s agenda cannot be overstated. We must ensure that the public service remains agile, efficient, effective, and citizen-centric,” Mrs. Kimonye reiterated.

Public Service Commission Chairperson, Ambassador Anthony Muchiri, highlighted the importance of embracing innovation and emerging technologies in public service delivery.

“As HR practitioners, we must lead the way in adopting transformative tools such as e-learning, e-examinations, and artificial intelligence to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of our services,” said Ambassador Muchiri.

The one-day workshop was organized by the Public Service Commission.
