PS Imbunya Encourages NYS Recruits to Embrace Discipline, Resilience and Service

Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Prof. Jane Kere Imbunya, PhD, on Wednesday, 26th August 2026, toured the National Youth Service (NYS) training camps in Gilgil and Naivasha, where she interacted with recruits, officers, instructors and trainers and assessed the training environment and welfare of Service Men and Women.

The PS underscored the strategic role of NYS in Kenya’s national development, noting that the Service equips young people with skills while instilling discipline, patriotism, integrity, teamwork, resilience and leadership.

Addressing the recruits, Prof. Imbunya urged them to embrace their training as an investment in their character, capabilities and future. She encouraged them to remain focused, disciplined and resilient while making the most of the skills and opportunities provided by NYS.

She also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to the welfare of Service Men and Women, urging the NYS leadership to ensure personnel are supported, treated with dignity and provided with a conducive working environment.

Prof. Imbunya commended the officers and trainers for their role in shaping the character of young Kenyans, urging them to lead by example and combine discipline with fairness, responsibility and mentorship.

She reminded the recruits that their present circumstances do not define their future, encouraging them to complete their training with distinction and remain committed to serving Kenya.

“The youth are the trustees of posterity,” she said.

The PS thanked the NYS fraternity for its continued commitment to nurturing and empowering Kenya’s youth.
